Funk's most recognizable bassist Bootsy Collins unveils plans for the world's first Funk University where he will serve as Professor Los Angeles, CA -- It began with a simple message on Bootsy Collins' twitter page to his more than 400,000 followers, which simply read "If You Build It, They Will Funk." Fans had no idea he was referring to the upcoming debut of Bootsy's Funk University, an online bass school for players around the planet to study under his direction. Bootsy’s Funk University begins its first semester on July 1, 2010 with enrollment based on a first come, first serve basis. Currently, interested players are encouraged to sign-up for exclusive information at www.thefunkuniversity.com. Registration for enrollment is set to begin in April for the summer launch. |
Last year Drew Schultz put out the "Back To Class" CD that benefited the public school music programs in Detroit with The Four Tops and a ton of other old-school Motown artists as featured guests. This music project, which he just starting to continue:
Last Sunday, September 1st, he released the follow up single featuring Eddie Willis, original guitarist of Motown's studio recording band, The Funk Brothers. Eddie is the guitarist on almost every Detroit-era Motown hit by folks like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, The Contours, Mary Wells, Junior Walker & The All Stars, Edwin Starr, and many more. As with the original CD, 50% of the profits will go to benefit the music programs at the Detroit Public Schools. This is the first in a line of singles, and Drew has plans on starting to branch the project out to other cities as well.

On November 15th 2005, BFG Records will be releasing a new album by Jermaine Stewart - best remembered for hits "Say It Again", "Get Lucky" and the perennial DJ favourite "We Don't Have To (Take Our Clothes Off)" The album is called "Attention - A Tribute To {safm}Jermaine Stewart{/safm}", and features 12 tracks, 9 of which have never before been released. The selections were recorded over Jermaine's career, closely up to his untimely passing in 1997. The project has been supervised by Jermaine's brother Gene, and proceeds from the album will go towards a headstone with photograph where Jermaine rests, as well as scholarships helping those in need. Early this morning, Sunday, October 10, 2010, the legendary King of Rock & Soul, Solomon Burke, our father, passed away due to natural causes. Solomon had just arrived at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands for a sold out show at Paradiso with Dutch band, De Dijk. He was on his way to spread his message of love as he loved to do. This is a time of great sorrow for our entire family. We truly appreciate all of the support and well wishes from his friends and fans. Although our hearts and lives will never be the same, his love, life and music will continue to live within us forever. As our family grieves during this time of mourning, thank you for respecting our privacy. Family of Solomon Burke |
